Indications and Dosage
Mouth/Throat
Acute stomatitis, Oral hygiene Adult: As 1.5% soln: Gargle or rinse thoroughly 10 mL up to 4 times daily. Do not swallow. Child: ≥12 yr Gargle or rinse thoroughly 10 mL 3 times daily. Do not swallow. Topical/Cutaneous Wound cleansing Adult: As ≤6% soln or as 1-1.5% cream/gel: Apply 2-3 times daily.

Incompatibility
Incompatible w/ products containing iodine or potassium permanganates, and other stronger oxidising agents.

Special Precautions
Not intended for use in closed body cavities and surgical wounds, deep wounds, for surgical equipment, and as enema.

Adverse Reactions
Significant: Burns on skin and mucous membranes (w/ white eschar), pain. Blistering, erythema, focal epidermal, necrosis, and purpura (concentrated soln). Hypertrophy of tongue papillae, mouth ulcerations, mucosal erythema, sloughing, inflammation or hyperplasia (prolonged oral use).
Resp: Irritation of pulmonary membranes, coughing, dyspnoea. |

Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact w/ eyes and healthy normal skin.

Overdosage
Symptoms: Sore throat, GI disturbance and vomiting, distention of stomach and internal bleeding. Management: Symptomatic and supportive treatment.

Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Hydrogen peroxide exerts its weak antibacterial action by releasing nascent oxygen upon contact w/ tissues containing the enzyme catalase. Furthermore, the mechanical effect of the effervescence loosens tissue debris and pus thus reducing the amount of bacteria in wounds. |
